Edoardo Durdin (1988) grew up in Rome caught a taste for classical drama and theatricality at a very young age. He started his technical training in 2010 at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence and furthered his technique under the personal instruction of master painter Alexey Steele in search of greater allegorical compositions, practicing portraiture, the figure, and plein-air.
He invites you to join this special 3-day intensive Figure Drawing Workshop, to explore a mastery of tonality and values to build accurately on each consecutive mark made. Students will be encouraged to develop their own handwriting and find a composition that speaks to them. The simplicity of the monochromatic graphite medium provides no distraction from that which is not yet fully understood, allowing the instructor to attend to things still unknown or unpracticed in order to expand the student's comprehension for future attempts.
We will be working from the live model in a variety of short and long poses, each to garnish stamina, speed and accuracy. Over 18 hours of instruction, Durdin will explore both proportion and tonality in cohesion with the figure's underlying anatomical structure. Students will be exposed to differently lit circumstances to prepare themselves for any setting, and will incorporate these theories into a comprehensive understanding of the human form.
Durdin will be demonstrating his full drafting process, as well as working one-on-one with students as they are encouraged to push their considerations of composition and finish. The rigorous pace of the workshop ensures students will progress with vast iterations of their knowledge of the human figure.
This workshop is designed as a preliminary course for Painting the Figure From Life. The drawing principles covered in this course will allow the student to fully tend to the oil painting medium and grasp the scope of temperature and color theory unhindered.
